Second Year Studio

Micro Dwelling

This two-week project presented the challenge of creating an inhabitable space smaller than 100' sq in a chosen location. The place of this dwelling is a peaceful and solitary setting in the rolling Black Hills of South Dakota, embracing the design challenges of a plains climate and utilizing regional strengths. While taking advantage of scenery and topography, this dwelling creates a dichotomy of functional and recreational space in an efficient and sustainable manner.

Philadelphia Rowhouse

For this design we became familiar with the typology of the Philadelphia rowhouse and the historical, environmental, and community factors which affect the nature of these homes. In exploring the diversity of these house-types in other cities, I was able to organize space to accomodate for comfortable and functional living, while also creating a unique design logic for the Philadelphia street-scape.

Fitler Square
Micro -Apartments

As urbanism is growing and people migrate towards larger and larger cities, there is a need for denser and more sustainable housing. We chose a sight along the Schulykill River at the heart of a popular residential neighborhood for a Micro-Apartment building which would not only solve the housing dilemma, but also provide a certain amount of community amenities while taking advantage of sightlines, city connections, and opportunities to employ sustainable practices.

Sansom Street Community Center

As the Schuylkill River waterfront is developed as popular public space, there is a need for the surrounding communities to maintain and improve access while also serving the purposes of larger gathering spaces for residents and visitors. This community center at the end of Sansom Street acts as an urban corridor and connection from the heart of the city directly to the river, with community amenities conveniently located within and around the enhanced circulation pathways taking advantage of views and advantages of such a dynamic location.
